Autumn weddings can look absolutely incredible

If you've never considered an autumn wedding, you really should.

Autumn might not have the guaranteed sunshine that everyone hopes for in summer, but from a photography point of view it has something else.

Colour.

Lots and lots of it.

Golden leaves, deep greens, warm browns, orange, red and beautiful low sunlight can give autumn wedding photographs a completely different feel.

And here in the North East and North Yorkshire, we're surrounded by some fantastic autumn scenery.

Why choose an autumn wedding?

Autumn can be a brilliant compromise for couples who want beautiful outdoor photographs without the pressure of having a summer wedding.

The weather can still be surprisingly mild, but the light is lower and softer.

The countryside starts changing colour.

The evenings become darker.

And weddings themselves often feel a little cosier.

It's a completely different atmosphere from a July wedding — and that's not a bad thing.

Autumn colours

One of the biggest benefits for wedding photography is the scenery.

Imagine photographs surrounded by:

  • Golden trees

  • Autumn leaves

  • Woodland

  • Country lanes

  • Gardens

  • Rolling countryside

  • Dramatic skies

Whether your wedding is at a country house, barn, hotel or another type of venue, I'll look for ways to incorporate the surroundings into your photographs.

Beautiful autumn light

As the days get shorter, the sun sits lower in the sky.

That can create some gorgeous light, particularly towards the end of the afternoon.

It can be warm, soft and atmospheric — exactly the sort of light that works brilliantly for relaxed photographs of the two of you.

And because the sun sets earlier, we don't necessarily have to wait until ridiculously late at night to make the most of it.

What about the weather?

This is the North East.

We don't make promises about the weather!

But honestly, I don't think you should worry too much.

A wedding day doesn't have to be sunny to produce beautiful photographs.

Cloudy skies can create lovely soft light. A little rain can make colours look richer. And dramatic skies can make a photograph much more interesting than a completely cloudless blue sky.

I'll work with whatever the weather gives us.

Autumn wedding photographs that feel like you

My style is relaxed and natural.

I want your photographs to remind you what your wedding actually felt like.

I'll get the family photographs and the important group shots, but I'm also watching for the little things.

The hugs.

The laughs.

The nervous moments.

The ridiculous dancing.

The people you haven't seen for years finally being together again.

And, of course, a few photographs of the two of you looking fantastic amongst all that autumn colour.
