Autumn Weddings in the North East
Hi there, I'm Lee, a relaxed autumn wedding photographer in the North East, and I think autumn might just be my favourite time of year to photograph a wedding! The trees turn gold, orange and red, the light is soft and warm, and everything feels a bit cosy. Autumn weddings in County Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire look gorgeous, from country halls to barns and coastal venues.
Some couples love lots of posed photos and some don't, so I'll always shoot your day the way you want it.
What to expect from an autumn wedding in the North East
In early September the sun sets at around 7.30pm, so it still feels a lot like summer. Once the clocks go back at the end of October it's more like 4.30pm, and by late November it's dark not long after 3.45pm. That lower sun gives us beautiful soft light right through the afternoon, but it does mean planning your timings around it.
The colours are usually at their best from mid October into early November. It can be wet and windy too, so a few umbrellas and a good indoor spot at your venue are always handy.
My tips for your autumn wedding photos
Check the sunset time. Look it up for your date when you plan your timings, and I'll help you fit the couple photos in before the light goes.
Bring a clear umbrella. They look great in photos and let the autumn colours show through behind you.
Head out for golden hour. In autumn it often falls during your drinks reception, so 10 minutes outside can give you some of your favourite photos of the day.
Make the most of the colours. Leaves, trees and a bit of woodland make a gorgeous backdrop, so let me know if your venue has a favourite spot.
