Summer Weddings in the North East
Hi there, I'm Lee, a relaxed summer wedding photographer in the North East, and summer weddings are just brilliant fun! Long sunny days, garden ceremonies, drinks on the lawn and the light still going strong when your evening guests arrive. Whether you're getting married on the Northumberland coast, in the County Durham countryside or out in North Yorkshire, summer gives us so many options for photos.
I believe in photographing your wedding the way you'd like because it's your day, so we'll plan the photos around you, not the other way round.
What to expect from a summer wedding in the North East
Summer is the busiest time of year for weddings, and it's easy to see why. Around midsummer the sun doesn't set until about 9.45pm, and even at the end of August it's still light until around 8pm, so there's usually time for photos after your meal and speeches.
The middle of the day can be very bright, so I'll look for a bit of shade for your group photos to stop everyone squinting. Summer in the North East isn't always wall-to-wall sunshine either, so it's still worth having a rainy day plan, just in case!
My tips for your summer wedding photos
Save 10 minutes for golden hour. That warm evening light is gorgeous, so we'll sneak out once the evening is in full swing.
Find some shade for the groups. Under a tree or on the shady side of the building works best, and it means nobody squints in the photos.
Keep everyone cool. Water, a fan or two and a shady spot for older guests will keep everyone happy & smiling, especially if the ceremony is outside.
Book early. Summer Saturdays go first, and because I only photograph one wedding per day I'd hate for you to miss out.
