Winter Weddings in the North East
Hi there, I'm Lee, a relaxed winter wedding photographer in the North East, and winter weddings have a magic all of their own! Think roaring fires, candlelight, fairy lights, cosy jumpers and, if you're really lucky, a bit of frost or snow. Winter weddings in County Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire feel warm and intimate, and they're often a lot more relaxed too.
Every single wedding is unique, so whatever your plans I'll photograph your day the way you'd like it.
What to expect from a winter wedding in the North East
The days are short in winter. In December the sun sets at around 3.30pm, and even by the end of February it's only light until about 5.30pm. That means we'll usually get your outdoor photos done in the early afternoon, then move inside where the candles and fairy lights take over.
It can be cold, wet or frosty, sometimes all in one day, but crisp winter light is lovely and those cosy indoor photos are some of my favourites. Winter dates are often easier to get too, at venues that get booked up for the summer.
My tips for your winter wedding photos
Think about an earlier ceremony. With the light going so early, a noon or 1pm ceremony gives us much more time for outdoor photos.
Wrap up warm. A faux fur stole, a cosy jacket or even a nice pair of wellies keeps you comfy outside for 10 minutes of couple photos.
Pick a venue with lovely indoor spots. Fireplaces, staircases and big windows all make gorgeous backdrops when it's cold or dark outside.
Use the dark. Sparklers, fairy lights and candles look amazing once the sun's gone down, so let's plan a few fun photos for the evening.
